Our white luxury towels are dye-free and chlorine-free for very good reasons. If you go to Google Images and search for “Textile Dye Pollution,” you will see hundreds of unsettling images that reveal how harmful textile dyes are to the environment. They pollute our drinking water, kill aquatic life, and ruin our soils. We are not convinced by so-called “low impact” dyes because they still involve the use of synthetic chemicals, nor are we convinced by natural dyes, which are resource, water and land intensive, can cause skin and lung irritation to textile workers and require the use of mordants, which can be toxic to humans and the environment. When chlorine bleach enters waterways, it can form dioxins, which are carcinogens and some of the most toxic chemicals ever made by man. Dioxins can cause serious harm to aquatic life, wildlife, and humans, including cancer, reproductive and sexual harm, diabetes, organ toxicity, and suppression of the immune system.(1) Furthermore, when chlorine bleach enters the atmosphere as a gas, it is responsible for ozone depletion.(2)
To make matters worse, many people go through life completely unaware that they are allergic to textile dyes, synthetic or natural, and/or chlorine bleach, which can rub off of fabric and be absorbed by your skin. If you’ve ever broken out with a random rash around your neck, waist, or private areas, you may be allergic to textile dyes or chlorine bleach. White is the #1 most popular bath towel color because it is visually appealing and psychologically soothing. And when dyes and chlorine bleach are omitted from 100% certified organic cotton, you get Eco-White®, which is the most hypoallergenic and eco-friendly color possible. The need for dyed towels pales in comparison to the health of our planet and fellow human beings. This is why Eco-White® is our only color.
